Free Books!!

Tor.com is giving away free e-books. This month there are a pair of them which will be followed up by one a month in the future. The only catch is that you have to register on their site to download them.

Click here to check out this month's books (Emma Bull's War for the Oaks and Will Shetterly's Dogland).

RE: Free Books!!

Baen's been doing this for years and in a wider variety of formats. They also sell much of their catalog in ebook format cheaply (and a selection of new books can be purchased in ebook format prior to their paper publication.

See:

http://www.webscription.net/

It's nice to see other publisher slowly follow suit.

Hmmm

One of the things I've always liked about Baen Books (Even though their catalogue is exactly what I don't enjoy reading) is that, by giving books away for free, they actually experience greater sales for their authors.

How about that? Isn't that fascinating? So many books go out of print, never to be seen again (Unless Project Gutenberg or something like it steps in), but by keeping the older books 'alive', Baen Books is able to invigorate interest in the author's current work. Makes sense, and I wish more places would do something similar.

Faber Finds - which is more to my taste - recently launched with the explicit purpose of publishing old, out of print works. Unfortunately, the price is exorbitant, which kind of defeats the purpose.

RE: Hmmm

Very interesting.

Anybody know of a service that will print the ebook and mail me a hardcopy (I hate reading more than a page or two of text online).

You'd probably pay more to have that done than if you just bought the $7.99 paperback.

RE: Free Books!!

Rambles.net gives away books, mainly ARCs, in exchange for honest reviews.
